Isn't it fantastic how you can look up anything, watch and read about subjects of your choice, download music and files, basically anything you want?

Searching for Porn

It's easy to find the things we are looking for, however it's even easier to find things we weren't looking for. Why is that when I do a search say in Google I get results for my subject and then when you click on it you get, well stuff I didn't want to see?
To answer this you need to understand some basic website lingo, behind each and every page you look at there is line after line of code called html, this code includes a section called metatags and keywords. In these sections webmasters can add those words and terms that are searched on. So lets say a porn site wants to be found it can include common words and terms that not only represent its content but those of general stuff ie, gardening etc.

This is really immoral behaviour but does happen and also there are other more complex methods of achieving the same result.

So the next time your searching for information be as specific as you can, for example if you wanted information on a particular type of car, dont just search car or its name, use models and other distinguishable details. As an added guide most search engines today also rank websites by relavence, the more information the website has on the subject, the higher they rank in the search results, so this can give you the user a better idea as to which website has the most info on your subject.

Website Nasties

A lot of our customers when asked did they understand what a computer infection was and how did they get it were of the beleif that, you had to download something and open it to infect your computer...WRONG!!!

Getting infected is as simple as connecting to the Internet, nothing else to do, just connect and collect. In the good 'ole days, yes, we had to download a file to infect our machines but the skills and technology has grownup a lot since those early days. Today they use small pieces of code called 'Bots' to deliver their payloads to you. These little bots run around the Internet looking for computers they can get access to, such as computers with little or no security.

Another great way to help out these poor little bots is to visit certain sites where they lay and wait for you rather than having to go looking for you. Social networking sites are good, popular sites, porn sites and download sites would be some of the most common places.

Basically people, malicious code can be disguised in many ways so the importance on protecting yourself with suitable security software is absolutely paramount and you should never connect to the Internet with no security or expired software.

Total
Freedom

One of the greatest benefits of the Internet is freedom of expression, sadly what one considers appropriate another doesn't but the concept that we can have a platform to express oursleves is indeed a rare thing in the world of political correctness. The really sad thing is that there are people who exploit this platform for their own gain and it's this minority that can spoil it for the majority. These sad individulas will continue until the Internet becomes policed and that the last frontier of free speach for all will be gone.

If we could all band together and ensure our machines stayed infection free, we didn't feed on the rubbish they dish up to us there just might be a fighting chance, but I find it hard to see the world doing this so enjoy the freedom of the Internet while it lasts and be safe.
Why should I Update?

We all love to hate Microsoft but we all use their products, and many around the world spend countless hours trying to destroy their products.
So Microsoft spends huge amounts of resources and money to protect its software from these people. However these protective measures are only any good if the user at the end actually installs them.

Microsoft has attempted to make this procedure as automated as possible however some users still don't install these updates. It is very important that you install these updates to assist in the protection of Windows and other Microsoft applications as well as your own personal files. Coupled with updating your security software, installing any updates from Micrsosoft is the next most important thing you can do on your PC.

By opening the system applet in control panel you can access the automatic update section and tell Windows when to download them and when to install them etc. Or alternatively you can manually install updates by visiting the Microsoft Update website.

Possibly not the comment most of us want to hear but a computers biggest threat is not hardware failure or some infection it's the person sitting in front of it. Yep! thats right we the user are its biggest threat to survival. Besides being a great threat to its existance we the user want everything we can have for FREE. So to achieve this we use programs on our computer to get access to those FREE things, like music and movies etc.

The questions remains is it safe to download from the Internet? The answer is simple, yes of course its safe, with some exceptions.

Under normal circumstances when you download you would be receiving files from a main server somewhere, in most cases these servers would be maintained and scanned to ensure you get infection free software.
However, there are applications called peer to peer file sharing, programs like Limewire, Bearshare and bittorrents. These applications allow a users computer to connect to other computers anywhere in the world for downloading. Now, this is where things get messy, let's assume that you have installed one of these applications, you found the file you want and you initiated the download. The file is actually downloaded from many computers at once, (called seeding) and as you have now got parts of this file you begin to upload it to others downloading the same file, whew! Besides the huge threat of downloading an infection the fact that your downloading from other peoples computers anywhere is enough to give you some concern.

So, to answer the question is it safe ? YES, but depends on how you download and from where and who. .
